LOCAL COFFEE COMPANY GIVEN A GREAT TASTE OF SUCCESS

Belfast-based artisan coffee company, Bailies Hand Roasted Coffee, has been awarded a total of six gold stars at the annual Great Taste awards, which seek out the best independent food and drinks producers across the UK and Ireland.

The coveted stars were awarded for the company?s Puccini Espresso; Sweet Wonders Espresso; and Fairtrade House Blend filter coffee; as well as its Jasmine loose leaf tea and Hot Chocolate blend.

The accolades add to the coffee company?s existing collection of Great Taste awards and Bailies now boast a total of eighteen gold stars for its hand-roasted and locally blended hot drinks.

Ross Kane, Business Development Manager for Bailies Hand Roasted Coffee, said: ?Bailies is made up of a small, local team, with people who are passionate about producing great coffee. We focus on selling primarily to independent coffee shops and restaurants owned by people who are equally passionate about quality and provenance. We love coffee and we love what we do, so we take the art of roasting very seriously, sourcing only the best beans and always striving to improve our blends.?

?This is only the second year Bailies has entered these awards, so to have amassed 18 stars in a relatively short period is a great achievement for us, especially for our loose leaf tea and hot chocolate products as we are primarily kno??wn for our coffee.?

Great Taste is the biggest independent benchmarking scheme for local, regional and speciality foods in Britain. Over 350 professional foodies are brought together each year to take part in 45 days of judging, deciding which food and drink products deserve the coveted gold stars. Bailies? is the only company in Northern Ireland to receive awards in all three hot drinks categories ? tea, hot chocolate and coffee.

Judges this year included Masterchef winner and restaurateur Mat Follas, restaurant critic and Masterchef judge, Charles Campion, food writers Lucas Hollweg and Xanthe Clay and over 300 food buyers from leading food halls, delicatessens and farm shops including Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.

Bailies is the brainchild of owner and founder, Russell Bailie who set up the company in 1993, having recognised an emerging demand for high quality, fresh roasted coffee in Belfast at that time. The company recently launched an online store and is now selling its specially blended coffees across the UK and Ireland.

The awards mark another landmark for Bailies Coffee, which has established a growing reputation for supplying some of the finest quality coffee in the UK and Ireland. The company roasts coffee for Grounded Espresso Bars in Newry, which also scooped several Great Taste Awards this week. Bailies also supply coffee to this year?s Irish Latte Art Champion, Ruslan Mocharskyy who owns Art of Coffee Dublin and who will compete at the World Finals in Korea this November.
