Trying to choose between the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo wii can be daunting. All 3 systems are vast improvements to the previous generations of video game consoles; however, they are also extremely different from each other and provide totally different experiences. As an owner of all 3 systems, I firmly believe that the PS3 is the best of 3 next generation video game systems. This game system stands out from the others because of 5 main features:
1. Hi-Definition/Blue-fay
This is the coolest and best feature ever. Nintendo wii and Xbox 360 utilized older disc technology, but only the PS3 gaming console offers Blu-ray high-def disc drive. This provides 2 noticeable advantages of the PlayStation 3, which using Blu-ray games and movies instead of DVDs. DVDs not only are being slowly phased out, but Blu-ray discs hold significantly more data, so you have fewer discs to store. Plus, Blu-ray provides a better viewing experience. The PS3 game console supports 1090p video, offers a HDMI output that is needed to read HD signals of the highest quality, and up converts DVDs so they look a lot better on your HDTV.
2. The PlayStation Is Ready to Play Out of the Box & Is Cheaper to Own
Although you pay more to bring your PS3 home, once you get it home all you have to do is plug and play this feature complete gaming system. No going out to buy accessories, such as a remote control charger, because your PS3 has a DualShock 3 controller that's rechargeable once you get it out of the box.
Plus, it's ready to go online via your WiFi network because it has a built-in wireless network hardware. If you get the Xbox 360, you have to pay at least 0 to get a wireless upgrade kit. While the wii comes with wireless networking built in like the PS3, unlike the PlayStation, you still have to purchase their web browser.
3. PlayStation 3 Has Games for Both Mainstream Gamers and Hardcore Gamers
Each gaming console has a pretty wide variety of games and plays most major European and American games. However, only the PlayStation 3 is supported by a wide array of Japanese developers and boutique developers selling online games, which mean more variety. While all have exclusive titles, such as Nintendo's Mario and Xbox's Halo, PlayStation has an armada of games that simply can't be beat--Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, God of War III, and the most renown driving game, Gran Turismo 5.
Some of the cool indy and Japanese titles only playable on the PS3 are Flow, EveryDay Shooter, LocoRoco Cocoreccho!, Pixel Junk Monsters, and The Last Guy. Plus, you get access to software, which is less like a game and more like interactive art, such as Flower, Linger in the Shadows, and Tori-Maki.
4. Multi-Media and Non-Gaming Features Offered by PS3
The PS3 is more than just a great gaming system. It is a complete entertainment center. You can view pictures and play music and videos you download from the internet or USB devices, including thumb drives and external hard drives. Plus, you can watch streaming video live from your computer. The Xbox 360 also offers these features, but the PlayStation 3 is the only system that will let you stream it to your PSP (PlayStation Portable) remotely. This great feature means you can access media content, such as Blu-ray discs, while you are on the road with your PSP. Plus, the PlayStation 3 supports Linux, so you have choices on your operating system and can use it for different non-gaming functions.
5. Free and Easy Online Gaming & Unique Online Only Features
Want to play your games online, browse the web, and download new games and videos on your gaming system? You can do so with all 3 gaming consoles. But the PlayStation 3 lets you do it without paying a dime or using complicated gaming codes. But if you want to play online on your Xbox, you will have to buy a Xbox 360 Live Gold Membership. And with both Xbox and wii, which have limited storage, you will have to purchase extra storage to hold your new video games. The PlayStation 3 also offers a free and unique virtual world, which is called Home. At Home, you can hangout out, play games, and chat with other PlayStation 3 owners. Plus, the PS3 offers you a trophy system, like Xbox 360's Live achievement system, which lets you earn awards while playing games. Plus, it keeps track of how well you compare to other players.
Another feature that makes PlayStation 3 unique is the the Folding@home program, which allows your PS3 to provide valuable data to Stanford University, who use your gaming systems spare computation cycles to perform cancer research when you aren't using the device.
