House Republicans yesterday passed a draconian anti-abortion bill, though it will likely be DOA?in the Democratic-controlled Senate, and President Obama has promised to veto it. Seth Millstein reports:
H.R. 358 ? The Protect Life Act ? would bar any ?discrimination? against health-care providers that choose not to perform abortions. In effect, this would make it legal for hospitals to refuse abortions to women in life-threatening situations.
?ObamaCare should be repealed, but for now, let?s take a moment to say ?yes? to life,? said Rep. Mike Pence, a co-sponsor of the bill,?The National Journal?reports.
Rep. Jackie Speier, a Democrat whose life was saved by a last-minute abortion, gave an impassioned speech against the bill on the House floor.
?I was pregnant, I was miscarrying, I was bleeding,? Speier said. ?If I had to go from one hospital to the next trying to find one emergency room that would take me in, who knows if I would even be here today??
