CANBERRA, Australia ? Australia's prime minister says President Barack Obama has accepted her invitation to address a special sitting of Parliament next month.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Thursday that Obama's first visit to Australia as president will have "historic resonance" coming on the 60th anniversary of the U.S.-Australian defense treaty, which was last invoked 10 years ago with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
She says Parliament will be recalled from a recess to hear Obama speak on Nov. 17.
Obama has twice canceled planned trips to Australia.
President George W. Bush addressed Parliament when he visited Australia in 2003.
